Hello, A funeral will last many hours, but it is not always the ceremony. Example: The showing of the body could last several days. The body is left in the the home of the deceased. The day of the burial the body will have one last showing in the home. There will be a last prayer service in the home. The body will been then moved to the church. Usually walked to the the church if it is close by. The service could last up to 2 hours. The body will be then walked or driven to the grave. Again this could be several miles or right next door. Once at the grave (which is above ground) there will be another short service which will last for about 1 hour. It is not in bad taste to video tape the ceremony. I was surprised when ask to do so. It is an all day event and usually also includes a wake after all is done. |

Honestly, in my experience none of the things you havementioned i have noticed yet. Funerals are always coincided with the day when almost everyone especially the relatives are free and have no work. They must attend the funeral for it is the last day they are o see their loved ones. Funerals are similar to family reunions, a special day wherein members of the clan expect to see each other. Usually funerals fall on weekends and at a good time, either having 9 am for the mass and or 3 or pm so it is not too hot. No. The person died has at least a week's wake to let the rest of the relatives be informed and arrive if in far places. Sometimes reaches a month or more. |
