Im considering moving to Greece in a year or two and I need some information.?

Ive heard that the majority of Greeks speak English. What are there in the way of jobs for people who speak very limited Greek?

Would it be possible to gain a functional knowlege of the Greek language in a year's time? How similar is the language to the Romantic languages?

Where in Greece could I find an apartment or villa that I could work and afford to pay for? I have no preference about the city or countryside but I'd prefer to live near water.

(for any American expats) What laws are the most strikingly different between America and Greece?

Feel free to volunteer any extra information that I might find helpful. Im trying to turn this from a dream to a plan and I have a lot of research to do to make this a reality.
