| What Challenges Will I Face If I Move To Quebec City?
My wife and I are pondering moving to Quebec City from California for her job. We are committed to learning French, but will not be fluent until after year or so after arriving. Please tell me what the Quebec community is like. I understand it can be a bit close-nit and sometimes unwelcoming to new people, particularly if they do not speak French. My wife would have a job set up, but I will need to find work (I have Canadian citizenship---- I am a lawyer in California, but am open to different types of jobs, and seek general information about the ability of English speakers to get work). Thank you for any information. |

Well i live in Quebec city. As far as challenge goes, i think you will have a hard time with the Winter. it can get very cold at time, extreme low in the -30C in January et February. Taxes is another major pain but it's not just specific to Quebec, but mostly the whole province. We have a 15% sale taxe on most goods. And if your incomes exceed 60k a year be prepared to pay a LOT of taxes. However a good thing about Quebec is the unemployement rate, it's very low, around 4.5% so you should be able to find a job relatively easily. Good Luck. |
