moving to Melbourne?

I am moving to Melbourne in March from out of country and I am wondering what some of the best places/ areas to live are? I will be working on the Southwest edge of downtown by the river/ Southbank, and I am a single male. I would like to be fairly close to work but don't mind commuting a little ways to get there. I am also a musician and am very interested in the live scene...but on the other hand I love the Ocean and would like to be kind of near to it. Close to the nitelife, shops and the good lookin ladies would be nice as well. lol
I was looking at the albert Park, Kilda, and Southbank areas but really have no idea what to expect since I have never been there. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Well I have heard that St Kilda still has some sketchy areas (drugs and prostitution) can anyone elaborate on this?
I may be able to put your resume in for a job but you'll have to wait until I get there and get set up for awhile. lol Also, I have no intention of sharing accomodation....done that too many times in my life. I make good money and plan on getting a nice 2 bedroom for me and my cat (and all my overseas visitors) How long is the transit into the south part of the city from the areas you are talking about in St Kilda? How is the beach there.....ocean water quality? Swimming/ sunbathing there?
What about the live music venues in the Kilda area?

yer stkildas a bit of a red light district but its a great place to liv if ur a young person. stkilda is home to the espy, a renowned live music venue.

one thing that might restrict u is housing prices as the prices a pretty high, especially closer to the city.

if ur working in southbank then u could live anywhere along a tram or train line and have no problem getting into work as flinders street station (the main station) is just across the river. alternatively u could get an apartment along southbank (the eureka tower is one of the tallest apartment buildings in the world) or even around docklands and walk to work.

if you would like to live by the beach you could at a property along the frankston train line by the coast (but not frankston, its renowned for being a hole), anything around brighton and other beachside suburbs can get pretty pricey.

good luck

live in st kilda would be best for the things u r describeing, lekin melbourne has a very good live music scene and the public transport system is realy very good so commuteing is not a problem from outer areas.... the closer in towards the city of course the cost of rent increases, cheapest and fastest way of getting accomidation is with student lodge ( try RYDGES on flinders street, or UNILODGE) which cater to international visitors specifically, aur u can share a house if that is to your likeing, try in the notice boards of unis and in gurdwarras they will always have some boys wanting to share home... for cheep and also u have acess to all there knowledge about the country at your next door should u need assistance... good luck and i hope you enjoy liveing in melbourne...:) Can you get me a job with you? My buisness just closed down!!:( i am one day with ut work now, and i am so boared!!! lol
