| australian national anthem - all things bright and beautiful?
Watching an old movie (Sky West and Crooked) the characters are singing All Things Bright and Beautiful, some church hymn. The music seems exactly the same as Advance Australia Fair, and the words fit all-to-perfectly. But googling around to see if this is well known, I get nothing. Does anyone else hear the similarity? please folks - only add a comment if you've actually heard both songs and can add something of value :) Lyrics from both songs, line by line comparison. The only times the syllable counts don't match is when the anthem's words get sung quicker: All things bright and beautiful, Australians all let us rejoice all creatures great and small, For we are young and free all things wise and wonderful: We've golden soil and wealth for toil, the Lord God made them all. Our home is girt by sea: Each little flower that opens, Our land abounds in nature's gifts each little bird that sings, Of beauty rich and rare, God made their glowing colors, In history's page let every stage and made their tiny wings. Advance Australia fair, |

All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small, All things wise and wonderful, The Lord God made them all. Each little flower that opens, Each little bird that sings, He made their glowing colours, He made their tiny wings. All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small, All things wise and wonderful, The Lord God made them all The purple-headed mountain, The river running by, The sunset and the morning, That brightens up the sky; All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small, All things wise and wonderful, The Lord God made them all The cold wind in the winter, The pleasant summer sun, The ripe fruits in the garden, He made them every one; All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small, All things wise and wonderful, The Lord God made them all Our Anthem'' Australians all let us rejoice, For we are young and free; We've golden soil and wealth for toil, Our home is girt by sea; Our land abounds in Nature's gifts Of beauty rich and rare; In history's page, let every stage Advance Australia fair! In joyful strains then let us sing, "Advance Australia fair!" When gallant Cook from Albion sail'd, To trace wide oceans o'er, True British courage bore him on, Till he landed on our shore. Then here he raised Old England's flag, The standard of the brave; With all her faults we love her still, "Brittannia rules the wave!" In joyful strains then let us sing "Advance Australia fair!" Beneath our radiant southern Cross, We'll toil with hearts and hands; To make this Commonwealth of ours Renowned of all the lands; For those who've come across the seas We've boundless plains to share; With courage let us all combine To advance Australia fair. In joyful strains then let us sing "Advance Australia fair!" |
